No Clone Policy

The Lyric Vapor Company, L.C. does not carry nor endorse the use of "clone" devices.  For purposes of clarity, we wanted to explain exactly what that means to us.

What is a clone?

We define a "clone" to be a device which carries unique branding, artwork, or patented features which are not properly licensed by their owner.  In other words, if the logo or artwork on your device isn't in the public domain and is there without the owner's permission, we won't carry it.  If the device is patented and we know it hasn't been properly licensed, we won't carry it.  Historically, these types of products weren't called "clones," they were called "counterfeits."  We make a great effort to stock a variety of high quality, high performance devices which are both affordable and 100% authentic.

What isn't a clone?

We believe a device may resemble one produced by another company, but not be considered a clone.  Much of the innovation in the world has been inventors "standing on the shoulders of giants," improving upon products which already exist.  On occasion, we may also carry generic devices which do not carry protected branding or artwork, and which are not subject to patent protection, for example, completely unmarked rebuildable atomizers without distinctive styling.  We will not use any other manufacturer name in the title of such a product, and we will explain exactly who the manufacturer is so there can be no chance you are confused about what you are getting.

Give me some examples.

• We won't carry a Kayfun-type device which has a Svoemesto logo unless it is made by Svoemesto.  
• We won't carry a device which says "Made in [xxx Country]" on it unless we have verified that to be true.  
• We won't carry an Orchid-type device which has the Orchid logo on the chimney unless it is made by Aethertech.
• We won't carry a Tugboat-type device which has their original artwork unless it is made by Flawless.  
• We might carry a device that looks and works similarly to the Tugboat (like the Sigelei Sig-S), but which doesn't carry any logos or branding which suggest it's made by Flawless.  There are only so many ways to arrange three posts on a deck with a cover.
• We might carry generic wick & wire packs and also branded wick & wire packs, but won't ever market nichrome as GPlat.
• In carrying such a device, we will be very clear about the manufacturer and any individual distinguishing factors.
• We won't market any device as anything that it isn't, will never use the words "clone," or "1:1," and will avoid use of phrases like "-style" unless it is common practice for describing a class of devices (like Genesis-style for top-coil rebuildable tank atomizers).

You haven't updated this page in a while and your references don't make sense to me.  Can you analogize?

Sure.  If we carried red pocket knives with lots of blades, they would either be authentic Victorinox, authentic Wenger, or listed as something like "Red Multifunction Pocket Knife by [actual manufacturer]."  If in the latter category, they would never carry the logos of Victorinox or Wenger.  They would never have blades under patent by either of those companies.  Depending on the circumstances, we might call them Swiss Army-style knives, but only when we were confident this wouldn't confuse anyone as to what they were buying.  In short, we think it is wrong to pretend a product is something it isn't, and want to bring you the best value for your money.

What about eGo batteries and passthroughs?

We believe "eGo" has become a generic term for ~16mm diameter cylindrical batteries with a 5-click on/off function and two sets of threads.  We will always clarify whether the battery is manufactured by Joye, Kanger, or someone else.  You can also narrow your search throughout this website by brand.  We believe "eGo One" remains a trademark of Joyetech, and only carry authentic eGo One products.
